Antar

This is the story of the black Arab poet Antar who fought for the freedom of his people and for people discriminated against. This time our Hakawati (story teller) uses all visual and audio theatrical means in order to recount his story: He sings, dances, and uses colloquial modern poetry. He uses sets, costumes and lights. He leaves his chair, and uses all the space on the stage.
This musical is the only Arab play to reach Japan and it is considered the first Palestinian modern monodrama to be put on stage.
“Antar in this case, to Abla statue in his heart he did speak
With a waterfall of poetry, her love to seek
From tyranny so cruel, and sorrow in his heart…
Oh bird, take my tears and lend me your wings
So I’ll fly to Abla, with the evening winds”
