Zarief
Our hero “Zarief” is a “Yarghoul,”Arabic for palestinian flute player. He is the best Yarghool player in the village and maybe in the whole world. He maintains that to earn a living from music or particularly from this kind of music is very difficult, although he is considered the best yarghoulist in the area. That is why he is very poor but his music fascinates all listeners to it.
On the contrary, his neighbor Abulabed who is not an artist is very rich and would like to increase his richness by looking for a rich bridegroom for his beautiful daughter “Zariefeh”.
The very serious problem that Abulabed faces now is that “Zariefeh fell in love with the poor “Zarief”. So, Abulabed lays down all sorts of impossible conditions to Zarief that could endanger his life to dissuade him from marrying Zariefeh. Will Zarief be able to obtain a wedding gown to Zariefeh made from the skin of snakes that could only be obtained from snake holes? Will Zarief be able to play on his yarghoul continuously for hours and hours until Abulabed asks him “STOP”, and if he stops without being asked to “STOP” he would loose the right to win Zariefeh as his bride? Will it be a happy ending or a sad one? Come and see.
Anyway our story is full of music and singing and two wedding parties, in addition to 30 puppets of gloves and sticks and marionettes. It is very visual.
Zarief is a glove puppet show for children. In case it is performed in another language than Arabic, it can be provided with some text of that language and with a synopses or an explanation about the subject of the play.
45 minutes. Audience of 250 peolpe. Full darkness
